modem / server-like talkback code?

    Hi,

    sorry for the opaque title..

    I remember a code where the program would respond to certain control
    words or phrases with specific answers. This was used for modem
    initialization and server communication.

    It would be helpful to automate e.g. command-line tools which expect
    inputs to certain questions.

    Thanks a lot for any hint.
