multidimensional lists

I have a list of characters and I want to convert it
into a list of lists..how can I do this??

It's not obvious what precisely you want to achieve, but there are at
least three options to work with multidimensional data structures in Python:

1) list of lists: l[2][3] = 1;
2) dictionaries: d[2, 3] = 1, etc...
3) Numeric module
