Numerical Methods, has someone worked on this already?

Hi,

I was thinking of starting a project on using Ruby to solve systems of
nonlinear equations, when it occured to me that this kind of library
could have a lot more to it (like approximating polynomials, finding
zeroes and poles of control system equations). Has somebody already
done this? I couldn't find anything similar here:
