It has nothing to do with liberalism. It has to do with domestic
violence in general. The father was probably abused as a child, and
most probably abused the wife as well. It's a nasty cycle that's hard
to break - child see father hitting mother, or gets beaten himself -
child thinks that is normal/acceptable behavior and has little self
esteem - child grows up with no self esteem and becomes a predator,
looking for a victim to make himself feel better.

A lot of women do not even realise that they are in an abusive
relationship until it is too late. By that time, they are ashamed, have
been belittled and abused, mentally and often physically, and they think
that they must have done something terribly wrong. Often, they don't
get out unless their lives, or the lives of their children, are in
danger. The mother in this story is typical.

I pray that the mother and son and reunited after the mother goes
through serious counseling. I pray that this little boy doesn't fall
through the cracks and become a foster child going from home to home.
I pray that the father pays for his crime, and that he, too, gets
conseling, although the prognosis for abusive males is poor.

This is a very sad story - I have to go and hug my little one now.
