    I'm getting the following error:

tar: You must specify one of the `-Acdtrux' options
Try `tar --help' or `tar --usage' for more information.
tar: -: Cannot write: Broken pipe
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

Any suggestions on a different approach or fix?

Check your commandline! The second command is wrong, -C is not valid as
the only option, a command is missing.
If you just want to archive files in a tarball try: "tar -c * > dst.tar"
or take a look at Python's tarfile lib.

What do you want to do? What do you think that is supposed to do? What
does this have to do with Python?
