OT: ad-ware

L

Leslie

I know this is OT, but I can't find any NG related to this.

What is the best way to protect my PC from ad-ware? I'm absolutely
bombarded with the crap. I've just spent the better part of this AM
searching the 'net for solutions, then deleting all files associated
with n-CASE. I'm sure they'll be back, though.

From what I understand MS software is what's vulnerable to all this
ad-ware & spy-ware garbage. I've pretty much stopped using the
browser, but because I do web pages I want to check them in IE, along
with a few other browsers I have. And then there's my husband who
*insists* on using Outlook as his news reader.

There are quite a few programs available on the 'net to prevent and/or
remove ad-ware & spy-ware. Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced
program that actually works? Do I have any other solutions?

TIA,

Leslie

Both free:

SpyBot download: http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download

Ad-aware download:
http://download.com.com/3000-2144-10045910.html?part=69274&subj=dlpage&tag=button

NOTE: Make sure you check for "updates" to the software after you download
and install it. Then run each program and let them take care of any
problems they find.

And the user, don't forget the user.

I guess webpages you do, don't suffer from adware.

Replace the program with Thunderbird and tell him it's an MS update, and
yes, they changed the userinterface again :-D

What is ad-ware? I'm using a Mac and maybe don't have this problem.
