OT question: mail agent?

G

gmcclary

I realize this may be "off topic..." having admitted that, into the
breach...
I'm less than pleased (minor understatement) with OE... (and MS et al, but
that's another subject...)
and am looking for a mail agent... what do you think of Pegasus?
Can someone recommend a secure and functional mail program a few steps up
from "pine" and ....

I use Pegasus, and have for a few years. It has some new features, like a
predefined junk mail filter. I'm quite pleased with it.

I'm curious, Google doesn't have any posts from you, so why did you
pick this group? Wouldn't one with at least the word "mail" in the
name be more appropriate?

http://www.tucows.com/ may help you.

Back when I used to use Windows I was mainly very happy with Eudora. It
has Opera-style paid mode and free (ad-supported) mode. IIRC, there is
also a "lite" mode which is free, but with less features.

However, its PGP integration wasn't fantastic, so I switched to Becky 2,
which is also fantastic. I used Becky 2 right up until I moved to Linux.

Other mailers to consider would be M2 (free with Opera), Mozilla Mail and
"The Bat!".

Search google for Gravity news reader. I was an OE user until I found
this one. It has it all, and is free.

I just got Opera to text drive, and am using M2 a little, not happy with
the
functionality/methodology...

preventing trying several

Huh? Various? Viruses? Varicose Veins?

I will assume you meant viruses, in which case the answer is that it
depends on your settings. For HTML mails, Eudora for Windows allows you to
choose between a built-in HTML rendering engine and IE's engine.

If you choose IE's engine, then it is likely that Eudora would become just
as virus-prone as OE. So it is best to choose Eudora's built-in engine
which, although a little basic, is faster and more secure.

It's very different. It doesn't yet have all the features I require of a
mailer, but it is progressing, and I'll certainly give it a shot soon.
