Page Reload problem - Please help

I've got a problem with this page I'm creating, I have a Gridview on my page bound to my database, and I also included unbound checkboxes, so my visitors click on the checkboxes and press a button, the button cycle thru the rows and check if the checkboxes are checked. The problem is that when the visitor click on the button the browser reload the page, thus resetting all of my checkboxes before my loop can check it. I used a <If Not IsPostBack Then> on my page_load that fixed the problem, but created another problem, now my visitors can't reload the page when they press the reload button on their browser. Does anyone know of a way to fix this problem without taking away the ability to reload the page thru the reload button on the browser.
