Partially parsing HTML

I wonder if there is a (static?) method somewhere inside the Swing
HTML Parser framework that can convert a string containing special
&...; - type characters into readable text, e.g.

from

"!=" equals "<>"

to

"!=" equals "<>"

I'm sure there is something somwhere that can do the job, but I can't
find it in the jungle and my GPS has run out of batteries.
