Can anyone tell me how to password protect a page?

This is for a friend. She asked me and I don't know as I have never had to
do this.

She is using Geocities. Will they allow her to password protect a page
there?

I believe current Geocities rules are that she cannot unless she pays them
money. If I'm right, instead pay for a real host.
