Of course. I meant that it would not be necessary to produce a design
which is still viewable when the the window is resized at less than 600 px.
There had been someone suggesting that my homepage squeezed (is that the
right word?) at that width.

Yes, but some clients want CSS driven pages. I work as a contractor,
some of my clients could care less, others want CSS layouts. I'm
comfortable hand coding HTML, tables, nested tables. To some, nested

Yes, Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash - to name a few. I'd rather focus on
learning new vector and raster programs as well as reaching new levels
of design, than focus on code/languages. I'd rather study Flash
scripting and Macromedia Director. I do like coding however.

The web has really kept designers busy. I wonder how many coders have
had to learn design and the tools.

I do not use Dreamweaver, but I bet a new tool comes into the market
that exports CSS. Do you think? Then you'll all be screaming..

Not that I disagree, but some would say, "Fine, then hire someone to do
the markup and publish the site." The implication, of course, is that a
jack-of-all-trades is a master of none.

screaming... I would not lay down tools or join a riot (as with
the early machines that put fear into the workers, especially in
the 19th century...)

But we are all safe. Machines can't well understand ordinary
speech, imagine them working out all the competing claims for
website design. You need to distinguish between a program that
generates css so that it reliably reproduces what you are seeing
on your 17" monitor (easy) and one that takes your website and
enables everyone more or less to get the goods (a mere dream at
the moment).
