What's the point in people making other suggestions when you ignore
perfectly good suggestions without even giving a reason.

Perhaps we should find a better word than "suggestions" if we meaen
different things by this word.
To me to ask for a suggestion or advice does not mean that the one who gets
them must follow it.
It does not mean that at all.
The point is to get information to be able to analyse it afterwards.
And one reason which is good for me perhaps is not for you and viceversa.

I did not say that.
However, I would have appreciated if you had written about other mistakes
too
( not about https and php, we already know that we have different opinions
about that)
I doubt whether my website only has the problems which you have talked
about.

I am the only one who will help you in
this group and for one reason only. I am absurdly fond of
Italian food and therefore have a soft spot for you.

I am not the only Italian on this earth ...
and to be honest I have got some good advice from others too.
I would like to mention Bruce who gave many tips to me some years ago, Tony
Inkster, David (Doward, I think)
and Jukka. I have got some good tips from other people in this NG too.
That does not mean however that all the tips were good.

Take notice
of what I tell you or I will make you eat some English food some
of which I grew up on... If you don't believe the above are
errors or are significant, there is a principle involved: Fix up
what you can and go from there...

Are you suggesting that I am not giving you constructive advice?
Why insult me?

I do not think that I insulted you.
Tell me are you a woman or a man?

I do not expect the website to be perfect.

It is quite fascinating how so many are drawn to answer the
OP... I think about this. What is it that so many rush to get
involved a bit? Maybe it is not just me after all that has a
soft spot for Italians? The food, the fabulous films (Fellini
especially, and especially his B & W earlier ones)? In
Australia, they are a greatly loved migrant group. Who cannot
like an Italian?

dorayme

Perhaps Italian people are loved in Australia..
But
1) They may be some Germans who do not like Italian people.
I was attacked when I lived in Germany
2) My experience when I was much younger showed me that not every Australian
likes every Italian..I have no idea about where she lives now...but it was
one-way
love ( I hope it is the right word)
3) I am probably not the only Italian who has written in this NG..

An Ethiopian.

No, "leave the display property alone".

That means "don't touch the display property". As in, don't mention it
in the stylesheet at all. Let table elements be as they are.

Yes, leave it alone, i.e., don't muck with it! Then your table rows will
display as rows (as they should) and the table data cells will display
as cell(as they should).

######## Analogy:

If you need a hammer, use a hammer.
If you need a screwdriver, use a screwdriver.

Don't try to make screwdriver more 'hammer-ish' to hammer nails or make
the hammer more 'screwdriver-ish' to drive screws!

You suggest that I would not change the display property but I have already
done many changes
and while trying validating using
http://www.htmlhelp.com/tools/csscheck/
I get now other kinds of errors.

That particular service would seem to be broken. It shows several
warnings (some sensible), flags an error that doesn't exist, but misses
the only syntax error that does exist.

Use the W3C validator (<URL:http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/>). Note
that because you're using SSL, the validator will not read your document
so you'll have to copy the style sheet content manually.

The error that still exists is one that you've already been told about,
and been told how to fix.

Finally, your print style sheet, which is almost identical to your
normal style sheet (use the cascade!), is thoroughly broken. Seemingly
more so than the original.

For some reason it did not work. After copying the contents of the style
sheet it did not happen anything when I pressed the button to validate it.
It seem as my validation request was not processed.
I can try another day.

I have a nice Italian recipe you might like then:

300g of chopped tinned tomatoes
4 rashers bacon, chopped finely
1 small onion, chopped finely
2 hot chillies, chopped finely (deeseeded if you're a wimp)
2 cloves garlic, you guessed it, chopped finely
A little olive oil
Enough spaghetti for 2, broken into shorter strands than normal

Fry the onion, chilli, bacon and garlic in the olive oil until the bacon
is well cooked and the onion is starting to brown. Add in the tinned
tomatoes and allow to simmer, stirring occasionally.

Meanwhile, cook and drain the spaghetti.

Once the tomato sauce has thickened up a bit, add the drained spaghetti
and stir the sauce to coat it.

Good. You can also use some finely cut sirloin or any good steak
instead of or in addition to bacon. (TexMex! It sounds like a
rough material, something like denim. Fancy eating a pair of jeans
even with loads of chilli and stuff).

Talking of this property I notice you use "scope" in <td>s as
well. This latter I have barely heard of. I roughly understand
"display" but have never once used it. Perhaps you have a
reason. I hope it is not because you feel you *must* use all
this fancy stuff for no specific reason? You need to have a
better perspective of what you understand. A lot can be done
with some smaller subset of things easy to comprehend and
clearly necessary.

Btw, about your side menu, I asked you before once why the
underlining? You have styled a simple list to go into coloured
boxes. Why this even? IMO, you need a better perspective of the
function and a better styling will result. For a start, it is
not such a menu that people will be visiting time and again to
navigate. It is just to set the language - to be used once and
that is that. So why so prominent a styling in boxes? At the
most, a simple text list will do (perhaps a heading to it to
draw attention), taking up less space. Consider even the most
basic JavaScript dropdown boxes seen all over for choosing a
country or postcode or whatever on so many sites for "use rarely
or just once" list of links).

The big heading with so many words in it looks a bit ugly, such
a mouthful, such an eyeful. Things are better designed to be
self explanatory without having to say in so many words what
they are, you already have a list of language links...

Considering that you are so busy with your business apart from
the website, have you considered using one of many templates
that can be had for nothing or even bought cheaply? Or finding a
basic one that you like and putting your own content in, offer a
fine Italian wine or full course dinner coupon to the owner for
the privilege?

What about Frontpage or Dreamweaver and you just concentrate on
design and ask for help on this (at perhaps a more appropriate
newsgroup or even this one?), you then just trust to the output
of the wysiwig (just see that it works in most browsers and be
done)

this is not kidding, all my tips are really good. OK maybe not
1st class but good nevertheless - 2nd class (hons) at least.

I like the implication of what might seem on the face of it to
be totally irrelevant: that you are not the only Italian on this
earth. Maybe saying to me: "Hey, go pester other Italians..."
:)

Luigi, you have an unusual deadpan sense of logic/humour or
logic/unhumour and I want to engage you to star in a film. Or at
least to allow me the rights to your personality. I would need
to interview you of course (can be done electronically) and a
contract drawn up by lawyers. You are a businessman so what do
