reload on button click with argument

How can I set up a button, such that when clicked, it reloads the page with
a value from a textfield as the argument in the url?

In other words, I am trying to have it so thaat when button is clicked, it
recalls itself ...http://......?variablename=valueInTextfield

Given that this is EXACTLY what forms are designed for - why are you trying
to avoid them?
