Has nobody had any experience, or can offer me any examples of how to
    transfer files via http?

All I want is an example, whereby my client can type something like...

    www.myserver.co.uk/transfer.aspx?id=1&code=4&filename=c:\temp\test.txt

And at my end, the transfer.aspx page simply retrieves the file and stores
it in a directory local to the server.

    TIA

Yes you can do this but what you need is a page on the receiving server that
accepts the request from the sending server. Loop into httpwebrequest and
httpwebresponse. Here is an excellent source to explain this process.
