RMI registry that allows registering remote server objects?

The Sun RMI registry that is part of the JDK must be running on the
same machine as the server publishing the remote object, because it
only lets classes register stubs if they are connecting from the same
machine.

Is there any alternative RMI registry available that does not have that
limitation?
