Running a php or javascript script on mouse click?

Dear all,

I'm somewhat new to the php world and the question is
how to run a php script on a mouse click?
What do I want to do ?
I have a list, I want the user to click on it,
get a menu to ask it whether s.he wants it to be put
in the already-done list.
Any pointers welcomed!
