sample code gone bad

hey all,
the following syntax is a method declaration i found in an article:

protected override void PerformDataBinding(IEnumerable data)

well, i'm getting an error message saying the following:

Using the generic type 'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable<T>' requires
'1' type arguments

can someone please help me? i'm new to generics so i'm not sure what this
error message means.

You need to specify System.Collections.IEnumerable - the non-generic
counterpart of what the compiler thinks you mean.
