sample.xll is not a valid add-in

i compiled the dll with no problems in linking and compiling. The xll
file was created in the release sub folder of the directory. When i
opened excel to add-in the file via the Tools-> Add-in, a pop up box
gave the error

" ...\Sample.xll" is not a valid add-in.

What are the possible reasons for such a problem? Is it got to do with
the project settings?
or with the .def file for exporting functions?

Really appreicate any pointer from anybody ...thanks

This is off-topic here. If you have a C++ _language_ question, ask it.
If you have a question how to program Microsoft Excel, find a better place
to ask it. I suggest looking at 'microsoft.public.*' hierarchy.

The xll was programmed in C++ using the Excel C API. Anyway
