Serialization validateObject not getting called.

I have a class I serialize.

It implements ObjectInputValidation with an validateObject.

I think this used to work fine (though I am not 100% sure). Now I am
using JDK 1.4.2_03.

Now it is not calling the validateObject method. Am I supposed to
invoke this myself?

I got it to work again by using readObject instead.
