simplify extended character strings

If I have a String such as

réservé

I would like to convert to simply "reserve"

Is there a library to do the above?

Similarly á would become a
Á would become A etc

Not that I know of. But you easily parse (a part of) UnicodeData.txt and
build the conversion table for yourself.
