subdomains

Im making a site that will have people registering.
Registered people need to have a personal page.
ex. yourdomain.com/registerdusername. Kind of like myspace.com
Is there a way to do this without creating a subdomain for each user
but maintaining the url. I thought maybe creating a custom 404 error
page to capture the name after the slash checking the database then
redirecting to a folder with there personal content. but i dont think
this would maintain the url.
Thanks
Todd

Just create folders "registeredusername"s and put the personal pages as
index files in each.
