Update Ruby without new installation?

Hi, I have Ruby version 1.8.6 running on OS X 10.5.6 and am trying to
update to 1.9.2 without doing a complete install alongside my 1.8.6
version. Like there is for gems, is there a way to "update" my Ruby
version, rather than downloading and install version 1.9.2 as if 1.8.6
never existed on my machine?

For OSX I use rvm and never touch my system ruby installation. I
suggest you do the same.
