our direct client in San Jose, CA

Job Description: Senior Unix Administrator
Defines, designs, and implements and supports Unix/Linux servers and
systems. Proposes and implements system enhancements (software and
hardware updates) that will improve the performance and reliability of
the system. Acts as liaison between Engineering and IT and assists
with the development and support of Unix/Linux based Engineering
services. Approves action requests and specifies purchase
requirements. Negotiates and places orders with common carriers.
May be internal or external, client-focused, working in conjunction
with Professional Services and outsourcing functions.
Additional duties include, but not limited to:
· Assist in Systems and Operations support and maintenance
· Setup/Install/Maintain Engineering systems (Wiki, Perforce,
Bugzilla, etc.)
· Responsible for maintaining backups using NetVault.
· Create user accounts and maintain security.
· Assists with support of Spam system (PureMessage) and PGP
infrastructure.
· Act as a liaison with helpdesk to provide first level support in
diagnosing and troubleshooting Unix/Linux problems and failures.
· Assist senior team members in providing support and maintenance of
the test and production systems.
Qualifications:
· Minimum of 5 years of experience of Computer Administration
experience in a Unix or Linux environment.
· Strong understanding of networking technologies (DNS, DHCP, etc.)
· Advanced understanding of LDAP
· Strong analytical skills, excellent follow through and good
communication skills required.
· Must be experienced in a 24x7 support role / environment.
· Engineering services background a plus.
· Bachelors Degree or equivalent combination of education and
experience required.
