Using a frame as target for treenode selection

I'm using treeview control as a client behaviour in a
small web page. The treeview is populated by xml/xsl files.
Within my web page i declared an iframe, that should be
used as target frame when one of the treenodes is
selected. And thats where i stuck ...
After looking through several forums and microsofts
documentation i've tried several things including
navigateUrl/target in xml file or xsl file and setting the
attribut "base target" in the treeview declaration on the
web page. The only result is that the page i want to be
displayed in the iframe is opened in a new explorer window
(be sure i spelled the iframes name / id corect!).
Is there any other method to do this job or do i just
mismatching everything ?
