Viewstate and Mulitple Web Servers

We have an arrangement where we have 2 web servers in a farm arrangement and
we are seeing invalid viewstate errors due to this. We are just using the
standard viewstate arrangement, so my question is should the viewstate work
across a web farm cluster? Secondly, if we have only have one of the
servers "plugged-in" and then switch to the other and "unplug" the first
one, would there be an issue with the viewstate because they both weren't up
and running together other than for a few seconds while we switched which
one was "active"?

I think there is some clustering informatino on that. I was actually
curious about this as well with a load balancing issue I'm delaing with (in
the instance that the cluster doesn't do the load balancing, an external
device such as a Cisco box did).
