Phil...

Let me tell you about a small company that used to be in California
25 years ago. It was a small company and had only two people,
a HW guy and a SW guy. They developed a great product and began
to sell it. Things were going great for a year. Then they started getting
calls for hardware repairs as their product started to wear down.
They started going out themselves on these calls, they didn't want
to hire a third guy. Funny thing, when you are out on the road fixing
stuff, you are not back at the storefront selling new product -- then
you go out of business.

Some company sells me something that puports to do

X

and instead it does

X - y

where, "y" is some bug quantity.

Do I get money back for the y or not? The product was misrepresented to me.

Now later on they come up with a new rev. with the +y bug fixes needed, that
effectively delivers:

X -y +y

You're saying that I should have to pay /again/ for that?

That's just wrong. Mind you, I've been a software engineer for a long time
and have /only/ worked for startups. So I've seen this over and over...

But let's say that they have Mr. Slick SmartLawyer working for them. Slick
says, no no, provide this instead:

X -y +y + Z

(a product that purports to do X + Z). Because there's no other way to get
the +y, I buy it, but the Z of course has bugs as well.

I might consider such a payment, MAYBE, if I knew that they wouldn't
continue to soak me for revision after revision after revision the way most
software makers do.

They are not that company beginning 'B' ;->

The basic maintenance & support package includes --

a.. free upgrades to bugfix releases for the current version of IntelliJ
IDEA
http://www.intellij.com/buy/idea/maintenance/#3

There is also and Early Access Program (EAP) where users can get a preview
of the new features being introduced to the product.

All I can suggest is:

1. Talk to them and discuss your concerns. I have had good quick responses
to email queries.
2. Talk to other users .... Robert C. Martin www.objectmentor.com is a
great fan!
