web control that asynchronously changes the appearance

    could you help, please.

    i researching possibility to create server side web
    control that asynchronously changes the appearance in
    browser when event on server occurs. this event is not
    connected with page loading or refreshing.

    in away it's similar to:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?
    url=/library/en-
    us/dnaspp/html/dngrfwalkthroughtrackingserverprogressfromas
    pnetclientapplication.asp
