Why doesn't the Hyperlink Control have a serverside click event?

Why doesn't the Hyperlink Control have a serverside click event?

I would like to run some serverside code when a user clicks on a link, do I
really have to insert a button and format it as a hyperlink?

I'm using ASP.Net 2.0
