You might be able to find out by using a hex editor as often
the compiler's name and version is embedded into binaries.

Whether C++ is a good language, though depends on your
problem and you might as well ask whether a hammer's a good
tool or a bicycle a good vehicle for transport.

One can write games in C++, though ... so ?

Why does that even matter? Anything can be accomplished with any language,
with the right tools. Nothing can be produced using simply a language. You
must also use API calls, which are calls to the OS, which generally are
available for any language.
