how to install .net

i want to use asp.net on my machine? i looked up on Microsoft group and
found some process to install. some environment needs to be loaded.

but after i install i am unable to proceed further???

can i install asp.net from internet???

Hi monika,

Are you talking about framework or IDE (Visual Studio).
Runtime is packed into .net framework and it is free.
While the VS.NET is not a free product.

No, you can't use even Notepad or a free ide such as

Uff, almost forgot to mention WebMatrix (another free tool) - asp.net ide.

secondly if i write asp.net on a notepad...then why do i need vs.net???

..net framwork is around 20mb, .net sdk is around 100mb (both are free).
VS.NET comes on 4+3(msdn library) cds.

You don't.
