JSF update....a web application framework or just views?

I've been reading the past posts and Sun's tutorial on this. It seems
like it encapulates alot more than I thought. Can this replace
Struts/Spring in validation, massaging data for integration etc? Is
there much code to leverage with the API or are you writing alot of
custom handi-work?

It can replace Struts 1. Struts 2 is somewhat JSF. Shale is full JSF.

With Spring I assume you mean Spring Web Framework and not Spring
Framework in general. I believe it is not JSF compliant
but replaceable and combinable with JSF.
