Newbie question: Extending python

I am a new user to python, who is trying to extend so that I can make use of algorithms that I have written in C and fortran. I have successfully manage to pass lists between python and C, but I can how to do this numarray. More specifically, how do I convert a PyArrayObject to C and visa versa.
