ObjectWeb Annual Conference, 5th EDITION

The guy who chose that venue is kicking himself. They figured wives
would push their husbands to go. I suppose by then the violence will
have subsided.

Well, this sounds pretty much like a flame bait to me.
Your message cumulates two deceptive ideas:
first, a macho cliché that only men come to IT events and wifes are waiting
home for them;
secondly, that France is on fire. Undoubtedly, some channels in foreign
countries may indulge in such naive propaganda.

best regards

first, a macho cliché that only men come to IT events and wifes are waiting
home for them;

I have never been to a computer conference that was not 95+% male. It
makes no sense to me. It is not as though computer programming
requires great physical strength. It requires co-operation and
literate skills, something women tend to excel at.

The problem may be the nerdy popular image of the computer programmer
frightens off women.

In my experience the women who do persist are exceptionally good and
are gallantly treated by the males. It is not like engineering where
they are harassed. In this group perhaps the highest status member is
Patricia Shanahan.

countries may indulge in such naive propaganda.

Riots in 300 cities going on for weeks is what I am hearing. That is
not exactly a tourist draw.
