onmousemove problems with internet explorer

i've written some code that does a google maps type image scrolling
thing. works great in firefox and safari but of course sucks eggs in IE.

i have a bunch of images within a div area. the div has an onmousemove
event to move the images when the mouse moves.

in firefox the images all move as soon as the mouse moves and more or
less keep up with the mouse.

but in IE the images don't move (or update) until the mouse stops
moving. then they "jump" to the resting location of the mouse.

it seems that maybe IE doesn't want to re-paint anything until all image
loads have stopped but that's just a theory.

anybody have an idea how to solve this?
thank you!
Ken
