What does re.compile("(.+)<(.+)>(.+)") do?
follows").groups()
('something to begin with', 'something inside', 'something that follows')
In detail:

(.+) matches at least one ("+") character ("."=any character) and remembers
it (the enclosing "(...)")
< matches a "<"
matches a ">"
compile() prepares the regular expression for faster matching.
