Usage of --help and --version in getopts()

Hi,

this is probably an easy question: I would like to use the --version
and --help features of getopts(), but despite the description on
perldoc.com I can't make it work. My script just gives out the
'Unknown option' warnings when I call
'foo.pl --help'. Can anyone help, maybe give an example?

Please post a complete, working script if you want help, and post it to
comp.lang.perl.misc instead of here, because this newsgroup is defunct.
