It's a (not very) clever piece of marketing-speak that indicates
that Microsoft is having a love affair with the internet. They've
built some new tools that they think are /terribly/ clever and will
make everyone fall over them selves to write web services instead of
ordinary programs that can run on a standalone PC. They wanted a new
snappy name to emphasize this new spirit of net-centricity ... ooh,
what shall we call it?

I know - let's just call it 'net'. No, that lacks something - and
anyway it's just a single word so you can't register it as a
trademark. What about "dot-net" ... like "dot-com" - geddit?

It's a very childish and very silly name - but what do you expect
from marketroids?
