Can someone recommend a free hit counter without advertisements? The one I
liked was from Microsoft but its going away. I want to be able to start at
a certain number and match my webpage background color.

i use statcounter - what do you mean by 'start at a certain number'?

not that i need a public counter my stats package is more than
sufficient.
