having trouble with lining tables up

K

kditty

ok here is my problem, a friend made a layout for me, and im trying to
add google adsense adds to the right of my tables, i sort of have my
problem figured out, but below the menu table (line63) in my wysiwyg
editor, i can not get my content table to touch with the other table,
there is a gray space between the two tables. i would like to line them
up to touch. im a total newbie when it comes to web design, and im
trying to learn how to make a page without tables, but for now this is
what i have. here is the source code, i didnt write it and im having
trouble understanding it, and my friend is unavailable for support, so i
figured i would tuck my tail between my legs and come to you guys for help.

Heh, that URL is in my HOSTS file, so I would never see the ads.
what do you mean by this? that is the google code, you cant alter it or
you lose your account.
Why did you repost, and quote the 275 lines of your original post?
Please learn to trim.

sorry, i am new to this, i wasnt sure exactly what i was doing. i
probably shouldnt have pasted the whole code in the first place, but i
figured most people wouldnt take the time to open a page and view source.

What's keeping you to correct that and then validate the markup? Besides,
this isn't about the css, is it? You can still validate that.

That, opening page, view source, usually takes less time than copy/paste
the code into textpad/notepad, save it as html and open that page from a
local file. And yes, people will want to _see_ the patient before handing
out advise as on how to improve performance and looks.
The lengthy post might also be the reason there was little to no response.
Not everyone likes downloading a large post. I have filtered them out all
together for example. I don't see/read anything over 7kB.

Hmm. Before worring about a gap (that I don't see), you should want to
fix the more serious things.

a. fixed font size - IE users can't resize
b. nested tables
c. Verdana <g>
d. Stuffed at the left

Google for 3-column CSS layout and drop all those abused tables, eh?
Like this:
http://www.benmeadowcroft.com/webdev/csstemplates/3-column.html

Might be this: <a href="mailto:%20kyl%65%40k%64it%74y%2ecom ...
else it is something in the <embed code. Remove each one at a time and
see what happens. Or, it might be the French quotes. Your long lines
wrap funny, so I'm not sure where line 98 is.
what do you mean by this? that is the google code, you cant alter it or

You as host maybe, but me as visitor am free to block it. I do not see
those ads. Look up HOSTS file.

As Barbara said, it's a lot easier to click your link then my View
Source button. I can also press Ctrl-Shift-E and play with your CSS
code.

Really nice bluegrass, though! I'm listening...

That, opening page, view source, usually takes less time than
copy/paste the code into textpad/notepad, save it as html and open that
page from a local file. And yes, people will want to _see_ the patient
before handing out advise as on how to improve performance and looks.
The lengthy post might also be the reason there was little to no
response. Not everyone likes downloading a large post. I have filtered
them out all together for example. I don't see/read anything over 7kB.

as i said before, sorry for the newbie mistake, i just assumed that
everyone may have a wysiwyg editor to paste into ;x

Hmm. Before worring about a gap (that I don't see), you should want to
fix the more serious things.

a. fixed font size - IE users can't resize
b. nested tables
c. Verdana <g>
d. Stuffed at the left

Google for 3-column CSS layout and drop all those abused tables, eh?

thanks for the CSS layout idea. i have been considering this, but wasnt
sure how to go about it. i like the three columns it works fine for me
and i like the look. thanks alot for the link.

i didnt write the layout, its just an example for me to learn from,
although i think it has set me about 2 steps back! the nested tables are
alot more confusing than i thought they would ever be.

i think the page is stuffed at the left because you have blocked the
adds, thats just a test page and i wanted adds on both sides, just to
see how it looks, its usually in the center and looks quite nice, but is
nearly impossible to edit for someone who is inexperianced.

the fixed font size i will look into for sure, and I LIKE VERDANA ;]
Might be this: <a href="mailto:%20kyl%65%40k%64it%74y%2ecom ...
else it is something in the <embed code. Remove each one at a time and
see what happens. Or, it might be the French quotes. Your long lines
wrap funny, so I'm not sure where line 98 is.

the mailto: jibberish is to block spam, i get alot of it, any better
suggetions on how to do so? im all ears.

You as host maybe, but me as visitor am free to block it. I do not see
those ads. Look up HOSTS file.
will it mess the layout up if someone blocks the codes all the time, or
is that just a table thing?
Really nice bluegrass, though! I'm listening...

there is nothing like the banjo....bluegrass style :D

thanks for the help guys, i really appriciate it. ill get on this
tomorrow, ive spent my whole day trying to figure out these nested
tables with no luck at all. take care

There are ways, but a lot of folks say they don't work, so I'll leave
that for you to google some day.

No, just the ad is blocked, not the container and space it would have
occupied.

Once you grok the CSS layout method, you will never look back.
