help with hidden variables..

I have the following html code:
<html>
<body><form method="post" action=page2.html>
<select name="states">
<option>California </option>
<option>Colorado </option>
<option>Connecticut</option>
</select>

</form></body>
</html>

I want to store the "selected state value" as a hidden variable and
retrieve in other pages(maintaining a session).

how do I do that?

I want to store the "selected state value" as a hidden variable and
retrieve in other pages(maintaining a session).

The easiest way is to use a server-side processor like PHP or JSP that
has session capabilities.
It is possible to write an <input type="hidden" ...> element to
subsequent pages but they only apply when in <form>s. And you still need a
way to track a session.
