How to determine a DOM node existence of parent page?

    Hi,

    I thought, the following code would work but it seems I don't know
    better,

    if (opener.document.getElementById('parentElement')
    {
    // remove that node
    // no problem, I know how to do it
    }

    Tried both IE7 and Firefox3.5
