How to subscribe MenuItemClick event

I use sitemap as my menu source and when I subscribe to MenuItemClick event,
the menu doesn't call my event handler while being clicked. Why?

IIRC the menuitemclick event only fires if you don't have a
URL target for that menu item, since your using a sitemap it
most certainly will and hence no click event is generated.
