The questions will depend heavily on what type of Java programming the
job entails. J2EE? Servlets? EJB? Swing?

In any case, you need to be intimately familiar with the core Java
language. Buy a book that prepares you for the test for Sun's Java
Programmer certification that also includes practice questions. (I'm
sure they all do.) If you can answer those questions verbally--not by
choosing one of multiple choices, but the way you would explain the
answers to an interviewer--then you should at least have a chance of
passing a technical interview.

My best advice is for YOU to ask questions about the job and your
duties. Just let it be presumed you are competent, and you are
deciding whether the take the job.

Don't ask about pay or vacations or coffee breaks etc. Find that out
another way.

You want to sound EAGER to get to work.
