Image to Buffered Image?

For my programming project we're supposed to make a version of photoshop (granted alot less great with graphics, but with minimal filters and tasks like rotate and resize). I'm having dificulty resizing. I use the Images getScaledImage() but I need to take the image that is returned and make it a buffered image. If anyone had some code that would be great but a strong suggestion in the right direction is always appreciated.
