Is it possible to populate a gridview from a datalist?

I am trying to have my gridview set to use the selectedvalue from my
datalist. It is not working. I'm not sure how to do this and I can't
find anything. Is it possible? I have a lot of categories and didn't
want to use a dropdownlist.
