Is the following possible?

S

Simon Harvey

Hi everyone,

I dont know if this is even possible, but what a client of mine wants to
happen is to be able to drag a file into a browser window and have the
location of that file dropped into a textbox.

So I'd have a page with a textbox and the user wants to be able to drag a
file from his desktop onto the browser, and have the textbox automatically
populated.

I'm not sure that this is even possible because I think Windows might try to
open the file in question.

Does anyone have any ideas how this effect could be achieved?

Thanks all

Take care

Simon

Write an ActiveX control, you will have to deal with security issues on the
client side (certificates, blah blah blah...).

Is that really any easier than using an HTML Input File, letting the client select the file from their machine, and having the location show up there? It seems like the same steps for the client either way, and a lot less headache for you.

As noted, you'll need an ActiveX control for this. Some photo printing
sites (Ofoto.com, i think) already do this.

Overall, this is very tricky to get right, and will only work in IE. Using
the INPUT type=File tag will work for all browsers.
