Toward a Brain-Internet Link

By 2020, we might actually have wireless Internet interfaces that
ordinary people will feel comfortable having implanted in their
heads, just as ordinary people are today comfortable with having
laser eye surgery. All the signs -- early experimental successes,
societal demand for improved healthcare, and military research --
point in that direction.

Frightening: 'Rather, the information contained in a Web server will make
us feel as though "Ritchie Valens" just popped into our heads. '

How about getting a virus (I don't mean the everyday human kind
either).

I imagine if this technology is a success; someone will dream up
how to network this stuff then we might as well be Borg Drones.

if the US didn't have its head so far up its arse it would
already know people all over the world are already using direct
neural control in everyday situations - such as usenet.

How's the connection? Still 14.4k?
;)

See: we're already leading in high-tech implant devices!

You sure implanting the head is as high-tech as implanting in the head? ')

Well, it's hard to think of an implant more high-tech than an entire
head, and the (potentially functional) brain it encloses.

We're just haggling over where the implant *goes*. ;-)

The former appears to be a commonly used technique. It seems to have found
favour among many practioners of government now that they no longer wear
hats.

And what gets implanted.

Probably won't give you a fatal exception, but I bet you'll get a
blinding exception...
