perl6 vs new book

Hi all,

I'm thinking about booking a perl book, probably 'Programming Perl'.
The problem is that with all this publicity around perl 6, I don't know
if I should waste money on a new book for something that can be
obsolete soon.

What do you think?
How long will it take until perl6 is "standard"?

Thx in advance

Perl 5 will be non-obsolete for 7 years (wild guess).

If you are new to Perl -> Learning Perl. Programming Perl is not a
beginners book, it's quite hard for a skilled non-Perl programmer IMO.

I think that it will take 1-2 years before Perl6 is finished.

Hmm, I think I heard that about 4 years ago... : )

That's OK for me. It means it will run on Hurd and the machine will
be fusion-powered.

Don't forget that Duke Nukem Forever will be written in Perl6 :)
