A combobox, in Windows programming terms, is a drop down menu + text input
combination. There is no such thing in HTML.

Do you mean a non-multiple select element? They are usually rendered as drop
down menus.

You can specify background-image on the select element or any of its
options. Browser support is rather limited though.

Assuming you're really talking about <select> elements, yes but only in
(AFAICT) Gecko. See <http://tw.ecritters.biz/select-icons/>.
