Yes I believe you may be correct. It appears someone has written a
class to deal with this problem, which writes the output to a file.

Also, the following Apache Jakarta Bean Scripting Framework project may
be relevant:

Unfortunately it was last updated in 2002 which makes me wonder how
useful it could be.
In closing I believe our current strategy will be roll our own version
of the Evaltag system provided at servletsuite.com until such time as
JSP extends it functionality to be more dynamic.
I have noted many people on a variety of forums asking the same
question as I have. Perhaps this thread will help other people.
